Following its success as the PMS chosen for Athens in 2004, the "Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad" (BOCOG) selected protel in May 2008, after an exhaustive review of the leading systems on the market.
protel was used to accommodate international tourist flows. The Multi Property Edition of protel (protel MPE) was implemented to accommodate guests in the town's hotels and in the Olympic village.
